The ride people fly in for. Flash of Gold runs 11 intermediate miles through waist-high ferns, dense aspen groves and wildflower meadows. BTR drops off it around mile 4.5 with drops, rock gardens and jumps, and G.E.M. adds three more miles with Rabbit Ears in view.

Local tip

Access is Dry Lake Campground, 15 minutes up CR 38, or earn it by climbing the Spring Creek Trail from town. Push through to Grouse Ridge and it becomes a 21-mile expert day with real exposure. Late September is when it earns the name. Check Routt County Riders for conditions first, the network holds snow into June.
